Key points of the trip

OFF THE CONVENTIONAL TRACK

This trip offers you an original trek away from the crowds. As the region is not easily accessible, you will see very few other tourists during your days there. Discover the heart of Tanzania.

THE GREAT RIFT VALLEY

The Great Rift Valley is the source of many theories about the origin of mankind. The rift presents all the conditions for preserving fossils, and its tectonic activity has brought them to the surface. Numerous hominin fossils have been found here.

MAASAI COUNTRY

On this trip, you'll meet a number of ethnic groups living in Tanzania, including the Maasai. This multi-cultural country has more than 130 different ethnic groups. Each ethnic group has preserved its own language and customs. Our trips are always made with the greatest respect for the local populations.

WILD BIVOUAC

Experience a unique adventure. Alone in the world in the middle of the bush in a wild bivouac. You'll be in Maasai country, and a warrior will look after your camp at night. A totally off-the-beaten-track experience and a change of scenery guaranteed.

WILDLIFE SAFARI

This itinerary offers a complete safari during which you will visit 3 national parks. Tarangire and its elephants, the mythical Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater are also on the programme to complete a perfect safari in Northern Tanzania.

  1. DAY 1: ARUSHA

Welcome to Tanzania! The ideal destination for safari lovers. This East African country is home to a vast array of wildlife that populates its savannah parks and green forests. On this itinerary, you'll discover three of the main national parks in the north.

Dinner and overnight in a lodge in the Arusha region

  2. DAY 2: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Rendez-vous in the morning with your private English-speaking guide! Settle into your private 4x4 vehicle, which will be yours for the duration of your stay. Drive directly to Tarangire National Park for your first day of game drive in Tanzania. Picnic lunch inside the park.

Created in 1970, Tarangire National Park is now considered one of the country's finest wildlife sanctuaries. The Tarangire River, from which it takes its name, never dries up completely and attracts large numbers of animals in the dry season. You are sure to see many African elephants here.

Overnight in Oremiti lodge on a full-board basis

  3. DAY 3: NGORONGORO CRATER

Early morning departure for the Ngorongoro Crater and 4x4 safari in the crater. Picnic lunch in the crater. Late afternoon drive to the Serengeti Park.

The crater is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is not really a crater, but a caldera, i.e. the explosion of the cone of a volcano. It contains fresh and salt water, savannah and forest, and is home to around 100 animals per km².

Overnight accommodation is in a charming tented camp in full board. The camp is right inside the park in the central region.

  4. DAY 4: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK

This day will be devoted to the discovery of the famous endless plains of the Serengeti. You can set off early in the morning, with breakfast to hand, to watch the savannah awaken.

The Serengeti is one of Africa's largest parks. It was declared a National Park in 1951. It is home to a wealth of wildlife in all seasons. Some 3,000 lions can be seen almost everywhere.

Second night in a charming tented camp in the central region of the park.

  5. DAY 5: SERENGETI - GOLS MOUNTAINS

Early morning departure for the Gols Mountains region in Maasai country. Game drive en route to the eastern exit of the Serengeti.
Then 5 hours on a chaotic track to reach the outskirts of the village of Piaya. Lunch break en route in the Wasso region.

This is a long day, but a must if you want to get to this remote region off the conventional tourist routes. There are no roads in this region. We set up camp in the hills not far from the Masai village.

Overnight in a wilderness bivouac in a dome tent on a full-board basis.

  6. DAY 6: TREKKING IN THE GOLS MOUNTAINS

A day's walking in the Gols Mountains between Piaya and Senjani.
Your driver-guide leaves with the car and you make the journey on foot with a second guide and a Maasai ranger.

You will pass through the village of Piaya and then climb the massif. You will come across the Masai and their herds. At the summit, you'll enjoy a beautiful view over the treeless Sanjani plain. Picnic lunch then descent to Sanjani camp, depending on your level.

This is an 18-kilometre trek with an altitude difference of 478-931 metres.

Overnight in a wilderness bivouac in tents at Senjani.

  7. DAY 7: TREK TO NATRON

In the morning, walk through the Olkarien gorge and observe the Rupelle vultures that take refuge here. A small stream has cut a deep fault in the rock. All year round, Masai come here to fetch water for their herds. The walk lasts around 3 hours.

Lunch followed by a 4x4 drive to Lake Natron. On arrival, walk to the waterfall and swim in the desert oasis!

Overnight camping in tents at Lake Natron. This is a real campsite with showers and toilets. Beautiful views of Mount Lengaï from the campsite.

  8. DAY 8: LAKE NATRON - LAKE MANYARA

Morning walk near Lake Natron in the company of a local Maasai guide.

Lake Natron is a salty, highly alkaline lake. Its water contains large quantities of salt, including bicarbonate of soda, and its pH is over 10. Its temperature can rise to 60°C. Only a few species can withstand this phenomenon, in particular the Lesser Flamingo, which comes to breed on the shores of the lake. Their population can reach 2.5 million flamingos.

In the afternoon, return by track to Lake Manyara.

Overnight at Oremiti Lodge on a full-board basis, with swimming pool to round off the trip in style!

  9. DAY 9: ARUSHA OR ZANZIBAR

Depart the lodge in the morning for Arusha town or Kilimanjaro airport.

It is possible to continue this trip with an internal flight to the island of Zanzibar.
